Wow, what an experience, interviewing the guys from Motion City Soundtrack. Let me just say before hand that it is very challenging to interview people in an area you feel your knowledge is inadequate. When I’ve interviewed guys like Mike Commodore, Marc Methot, “Spector” Richardson, and even Zane Lamprey, I knew what I was talking about. It is difficult because I’ll never experience anything like what they, and Chris Glover have experienced. Chris is a friend of mine, and a musical genius so I was glad to have him on board to help me out. Coincidentally, What is weird, it that I graduated high school with his brother…small world.
All in all I was very lucky to be able to pick up the band and have lead singer Justin Pierre in my back seat, and lead guitarist Josh Cain in the front seat driving them from Bogarts, to the University of Cincinnati. Car conversation went from video games, to movies, to music, and strangely enough, to the old HBO show, Carnivale. Then strolling through CCM with a posse was pretty cool, and then the CCM basement…ahhh…gotta love eMedia! One of my friends saw me through the glass window and instantly flicked me off…then continued to do so…for the entire band! Then I was greeted by another who asked me, in front of the entire band, “Are you giving a tour?” WHAT!? This was my one moment to be cool and all my friends are ruining it for me!
Actually, thats an overstatement, cause the guys from MCS are really cool, and just joked it off. Everyone in that band was extremely nice, and unfortunately, I didn’t get to meet bassist Matt Taylor. Jesse Johnson was very quiet, but had the loudest, sweetest purple shoes that would make Ryann so jealous. Tony Thaxton was so modest about his skills and their band, when in reality, he is the most underrated drummer in rock. I’d also say Thaxton was one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met. Josh Cain was hilarious (you can hear him chomping on gum the entire time in the interview) and was the most talkative of them all. He loves video games. Justin Pierre…man what a cool dude. Unfortunately I had to cut off his intro do to some technical difficulties but he did say he’s a gemini and loves eating pizzas, but tries not eating them all the time.
I appreciate everyone’s help and support since this fiasco started late last week and I urge you all to buy “My Dinosaur Life”, because it’s a great album! Special thanks to DJ Matty Ray from the Dope Ish and Chris Glover for helping with the interviews and for helping me pick up the band! MCS is an awesome “musical band”
